Merge and rewrite

Also [1]. I've tried to think of some meaningful reason against this merge, but I can't think of any. Feel free to suggest otherwise. -- Alad (talk) 14:45, 26 September 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I'm fine with merging but I dislike the current form of Getting and installing Arch. Particularly the large notes and the wide table. I'll try to come up with a draft. --Larivact (talk) 15:12, 26 September 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I like the proposed list format in User:Larivact/drafts/Getting and installing Arch 1. Not sure on using "Note:" without Template:Note, if you don't want the blue frame I guess you should use some different term like "Keep in mind", or a summarizing sentence. If length is the main issue, a better approach might be to check if all the content is actually required. -- Alad (talk) 12:35, 27 September 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Something like Template:Important would also fit here... but we don't have it. -- Alad (talk) 12:37, 27 September 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah the blue frame bothers me. I created a new draft that splits the Installation methods section and uses definition lists: User:Larivact/drafts/Getting and installing Arch, what do you think of it? --Larivact (talk) 14:43, 27 September 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ad the changes Svito tried out. Special:Diff/544309: Grouping Special installation methods under Installation medium doesn't make sense and I don't think a supersection for the other two sections is necessary. Special:Diff/544310: I also initially had that order but decided against it because the Installation environments section contains instructions on how to boot, which belong after the download section. --Larivact (talk) 04:30, 28 September 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I applied Special:Diff/555378 to preview final page. Can we begin to merge this or something else left to discuss? -- Svito (talk) 17:03, 16 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks for bumping; I left some comments. -- Alad (talk) 18:05, 16 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Nice work! I took liberty on myself to rearrange page content with focus on live environment only – specifics of installing from existing system are better kept on its dedicated page (same as it is now) in my opinion. Please review Special:Diff/555968 and next edits addressing other draft comments. -- Svito (talk) 19:07, 19 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It looks good apart from the GPG section, which I find somewhat clumsy in its attempts for clarity. I guess we can merge the original wording as it has been used for the last few years, and discuss changes to it in Talk:Installation guide. -- Alad (talk) 10:24, 26 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
As agreed I've made the following changes:
  1. Remove the "methods" table and add alternative methods of installation directly. In order to avoid duplicated content, I've cleaned up Category:Installation process and linked to it, rather than add a list. [2]
  2. Move the content on verifying GPG signatures to the installation guide. I've used the original wording from Getting and installing Arch for now.
That left the "See also" links; for lack of a better idea I've moved these to Category:Installation_process. Perhaps they too should be added to the Installation guide. -- Alad (talk) 14:09, 26 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Excellent changes. Closing. -- Svito (talk) 19:13, 22 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
