The 1st removed reference https://askubuntu.com/a/45009 had no backing in kernel/sysctl documentation or even on forums confirming that vm.min_free_kbytes is per-core. The previous formula came from there, too, with no credible backing. Furthermore, compared to most suggestions online, 5-6% is too much (even for heavily used databases). The 2nd removed reference https://www.linbit.com/en/kernel-min_free_kbytes is specific to embedded systems.
