Storage

I would like to add to the "Storage" section of this page. I have a Dell XPS 13 (9370) and it has in it a Samsung PM981 NVMe SSD, the storage section only notes that there are two models, namely the Toshiba and Hynix. BashTux (talk) 18:12, 11 October 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hmm, mine also reports as a Samsung PM981 in lshw and fdisk. I haven't opened the case to check if the difference may be a rebadging of some kind. DarwinSurvivor (talk) 23:06, 11 October 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I searched this model and there is a legit Samsung model like this (Tom's Hardware has a review on it), which is supplied with prebuilt machines such as these..... I will be opening my laptop soon as i have ordered some Thermal Grizzly Thermal Pads to get better cooling on my XPS. Will confirm when i do. BashTux (talk) 16:42, 12 October 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Disable touchscreen?

I have been trying to figure out how to disable the touch screen as I don't use it and it's just a nuisance (I accidentally touch things when adjusting my monitor angle etc).

I have confirmed that it is *not* enabled at the BIOS level. I have rebooted several times to double check and the BIOS clearly has the "Enabled" checkbox unchecked. It seems like I do not have a touch screen after boot first, but once the laptop goes to suspend and resumes, the touchscreen is active again.

Removing `hid_multitouch` just makes the touchpad unusable and makes the touchscreen more naive (dragging a finger selects text instead of scrolls, for instance). I haven't been able to find a clear resource on what I can do to disable it entirely. Perhaps some udev rules, but I am not very comfortable with that subsystem so am a bit lost.

Any ideas?

Audio now working

I found this on the ubuntu help page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto

Built-in audio, both speakers and microphone wasn't working. Speakers (unavailable), Headphones "Plugged in" in pavucontrol, even no headphone/headset was plugged in.

Adding this to /etc/modprobe.d/xps.conf fixed my audio issues options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=1

$ echo "options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=1" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/xps.conf

For me, only probe_mask=4 improved the situation. It brought back sound output via HDMI but no sign of the internal speaker or microphone. Galfwender (talk) 20:05, 15 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
