ccache worked ok with every compilation except kernel24. To use it for kernel24 compilation I had to add this to my ~/.bashrc

        if [ -d /usr/lib/ccache ] ; then

Are you guys sure that the variables CC, CCP and CCX need to be added to makepkg.conf? I remember them being used, but I think they may be deprecated with the enhanced BUILDENV variable.

I found that it is enough to just edit /etc/makepkg.conf and change the BUILDENV line [that is, uncomment !ccache like this: BUILDENV=([...] ccache [...])]. I don't want to edit the page an introduce a mistake, but for me it works as expected. So... any comments?

Why not rename this to ccache?

Whoops 14:13, 27 May 2009 (EDT): Does it make sense that there is no ccache article but one for "Faster compiling and makepkg with ccache HOWTO"? Maybe link from some "tuning arch" or general compiling article to it (so it's still easy to find if someone doesn't know the name "ccache" but just wants to compile faster - ATM the article name servers for that I guess).

I've moved it. --Donald-teh-Duck 06:58, 10 August 2009 (EDT)

You are right, no need to edit CC, etc. Synss 02:30, 10 July 2009 (EDT)

Consider merging with ABS entry?

Since ABS and custom Kernel building would be the most common use of this feature, merging the entry with the one for ABS wouldn't be a bad idea. Further, a link in the entry for Kernel Compilation using makepkg--for those who build a custom kernel with each update--would be a big step toward concision. This entry has existed as a stub for years, has yet to be expanded, and hasn't been edited in nearly a year.
