Card Reader

Hello folks,

the microSD card seems also not working. When inserting a card i get this message:

kernel: blk_update_request: I/O error, dev mmcblk0, sector 0 op 0x0:(READ) flags 0x0 phys_seg 1 prio class 0
kernel: Buffer I/O error on dev mmcblk0, logical block 0, async page read

Can only confirm: it doesn't seem to work for me as well with similar symptoms.

Same here. Workaround that solves it for me:

rmmod sdhci_pci
rmmod sdhci
modprobe sdhci debug_quirks2="0x80000000"
modprobe sdhci_pci

or permanently, add this to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in grub (and after run update-grub):

sdhci.debug_quirks2=0x80000000

That is cool @Azeam and it works on my side as well. NicerSlicer (talk) 20:43, 29 August 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Internal Microphone

The internal microphone is not working on 5.8 for me. The main page lists 5.8rc3 as having fixed the issue. The old change was pointing to some ALSA bug-threads which are still open. Does anybody actually have a functional internal mic with the 14ARE05? Alexmaras (talk) 09:06, 10 August 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I've switched to 5.8 kernel and I have internal mic working which clearly didn't in 5.7. Used it to skype (which I couldn't before) ). As I understand, 2 sound devices are recognized for 14are05 and by default before the fix in 5.8rc3 the 1st was tasked with internal mic, which was wrong. I don't have input devices available in pulseaudio or alsa with pulseaudio disabled - arecord gives no data. I've logged a bug with alsa - https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=208763 - perhaps there's regional differences between devices? For instance, my Australian model has both a barrel pin and a USB-C input, both of which allow charging. It's possible that there are some differences for the audio device not covered by the patch in 5.8rc3. It might be useful to see your alsa-info.sh output in that kernel.org thread so that we can see what might be different between the two laptops so that it can be debugged. Added a comment with a link to alsa-info.sh results there. Theorlangur (talk) 09:58, 10 August 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for the alsa-info.sh entry - that helped me resolve the issue. The AUR package wasn't configured to build the modules needed - snd-acp3x-rn was not available - but the official package now in the testing repository works as expected. I now have an audio input and it's working as expected. I've closed off the kernel.org as resolved and I'll clarify that the snd-acp3x-rn module has to be available in the main page Alexmaras (talk) 14:23, 10 August 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

New page for 14ITL05?

Hi all,

I have a 14ITL05. This is the Intel version of basically the same machine. My specific model was purchased from Staples here in the US with prefix code 82HS (link here: https://www.staples.com/lenovo-ideapad-flex-5-14itl05-14-notebook-intel-i5-12gb-memory-512gb-ssd-windows-10-82hs0003us/product_24465740).

Is it worth combining both Intel & AMD into a single page, or are there considerations that will keep Intel separate?

So far, the only issues have been:

1) Fingerprint reader not working - known issue, there is a bounty to pay for a fix but no driver exists (06cb Synaptics). 2) Auto-rotate requires an additional script, at least on Kubuntu. Have not yet tested it on Arch but I can easily do so.

I'm happy to contribute a new page if this is OK.

I personally see no issue in adding information about this version of the computer to the existing page, but a large part of the issues so far appear to be AMD-related so I am unsure how useful it would be to Intel users. Korikori (talk) 15:52, 10 December 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Function Keys

I've set BIOS for function keys to work directly, without Fn. That is, pressing F1 will mute sound etc.

Issue: the "star" key (Insert) turns on Airplane mode, same like F8 key. Is there a fix for this, or to disable Airplane mode key completely?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edZnhuySy3I&t=121s says Star icon opens lenovo software.
