What is winbind?

Then you have to install winbind, then edit the /etc/nsswitch.conf and add the "wins" to the list of hosts.

This isn't very clear. Is winbind a package? Is it a command from a different package? axper (talk) 14:35, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

The quotation above is taken from Rdesktop#Remote_desktop_using_NetBIOS_names_instead_of_using_IP_address. The whole thing looks to me tightly tied to Samba#NetBIOS/WINS_host_names. Someone more knowledgeable might want to correct me, or add more information. Regid (talk) 22:29, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
