super inconvenient setup
the article describes a super inconvenient setup.
put some stuff below /etc , some below /var , some stuff below /home or /opt , where the regular user has no write access.
Wow ! The worst way to do it on a private, essentially one-user installation. if instead, you manually unzip the sources it all remains below one userdir for easy access. --UBF6 (talk) 01:22, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
abandoned project
As of Monday, March 17, 2025, 02:37:34 +04, the last commit was made on January 25, 2021. The project appears to be abandoned and is known to have several vulnerabilities. Heated disputes have been taking place in the GitHub issues (see https://github.com/HelloZeroNet/ZeroNet/issues), and the main developer has suddenly and unexpectedly vanished. You can read more about the discussion regarding his disappearance here: https://github.com/HelloZeroNet/ZeroNet/issues/2847#issuecomment-2166024875. Several forks exist, though their safety remains uncertain.
Notable vulnerabilities include a ReDoS issue in the built-in file editor (https://github.com/HelloZeroNet/ZeroNet/issues/2834), among others that have become lost in an overwhelming stream of confusing issues.
For now, I will add a warning message advising caution, as I am not convinced that the forks are any more secure.
