Typo

Re [1], if you agree it starts "at" the end of the partition (can't see the meaning of that phrase otherwise), why do you change it back to "and"? -- Alad (talk) 16:31, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

don't grep lsblk

I think we should exclude grep ... from this line:

# lsblk | grep -v "rom\|loop\|airoot"

Commands in the Beginners' guide have to be manually typed. Adding the grep is a lot of extra work, and a newbie will likely not understand what grep does. This makes it more work and potentially confusing. I think it is better to say "just look at the /dev/sdX lines, and ignore the others", or something like that. Could initially list lsblk on its own, and then offer the addition of the grep command below as an option? My thinking was that even where the command is copied parrot fashion (most likely will be by beginners), the results would at least be less confusing than otherwise. Mount the partitions

Can I ask why you removed the "Mount the partitions" section with [2]? Maybe it would have required some style fixes, but I think it was more coherent with this draft than Beginners' guide#Mount the partitions. -- Kynikos (talk) 12:32, 23 December 2014 (UTC)

Interactive mode

I was wondering, why not use parted in interactive mode? It would avoid always repeating "parted /dev/sdx" and IMO make everything clearer, also resulting in a softer transition from fdisk. -- Kynikos (talk) 13:11, 23 December 2014 (UTC)

My thinking was that using the command-line mode would essentially incur a level of repetition that would help newer users familiarise themselves with potentially new / unfamiliar concepts (e.g. using device names). A little more work and concentration may pay off in the long run. The command line method also remains consistent irrespective of the number of devices being used (i.e. no need to exit and re-start when dealing with extra devices).
